Posted by: Joel Hill | Thursday, July 6th, 2023 ( 6:00am)
Did you know there’s a castle full of history in Michigan? Our WCSG Travelin’ Together features the Saginaw County Castle Museum. The structure was built in 1898 and served as a post office for the region. It quickly outgrew the space and by 1937, renovations began and produced the castle as it stands today. Inside the building, you’ll find a unique collection of historic Michigan artifacts, with an annex that contains more than 150-thousand unique pieces; everything from Native American tools and artwork to fur traders and missionaries’ products and papers. You’ll learn about the timber industry in the region and its’ transformation into the automobile industry. The collection includes tools and equipment that loggers used to clear forests in the region. Also included is the Saginaw County Sports Hall of Fame. Visitors to the museum can see the richness of the exhibit through the diverse sports memorabilia which celebrates the traditions and legacies of individuals in the Saginaw County region. The museum is open seven days a week. For more information, including hours of operation and admissions, visit their website Castle Museum.
