06/25/26 - WCSG's Travelin' Together - Celtic Highland Games
Posted by: Joel Hill | Thursday, June 25th, 2026 ( 6:00am)
Scotland is in the World Cup, but if you couldn’t make those games, you can make some a little closer to home. This week's WCSG's Travelin' Together visits the Holland Waterfront Celtic Festival and Highland Games. An exciting look at Scottish heritage this weekend. Events for adults get underway on Friday, but a more family friendly festival opens on Saturday. Gates open at 9am on Saturday with FREE admission to those 15 and under. Take in a favorite of this weekend at the festival grounds where you can watch athletes compete in traditional highland games including the caber toss and eight other events for both men and women. Athletes will compete for both the prestige and prizes. Hear traditional and modern music with a Scottish twist at two stages. You can also watch as competitors from around the region take part in traditional dancing competitions. Another favorite for families is visiting two areas where animals that are common to the Highlands will be on display. You can see Highland Cows and the Sheepdogs who corral them. Take in Scottish food that’s more than Hagis. Fish and Chips vendors, along with Shepherds pie, Irish stew, and Scottish meat pies are part of the festival fare. Retailers and crafters will also be on hand to display traditional and modern takes on Scottish material and items for sale. And if you do have some Scottish blood, there will be a meeting of multiple clans throughout the day. All events are taking place at the Ottawa County Fairgrounds. For more information including a schedule, admissions, and a list of food vendors, visit their website - Celtic Festival.
