Our WCSG’s Travelin Together series takes a step back to the 18th century and we can explore it right here in Michigan.Hosted by the West Michigan Historical Society, this live action event will entertain and inform your family about the struggles and joys of life well before modern technology was around.

The 20th annual Feast of the Strawberry Moon takes us back to life a few hundred years ago in West Michigan. The two-day event showcases the convergence of three cultures, Native American, French, and English as they sought to live in West Michigan.

The family friendly event features live demonstrations of frontier cooking, camp living, and battlefield re-enactments. You can catch what life was like for a fur trader as they navigated the wild rivers of the state and the forests that presented their own dangers. You'll also see multiple demonstrations of some of the weapons used during those times, including swords and there's even a musket firing held several times on the field.

Hop on an ox-cart for an adventurous ride around the grounds, or take in one of the many musical acts that will be performing. You can see even purchase homemade goods as they would have been crafted back then.

A non-denominational church service will be held on Sunday particularly for re-enactors as well as volunteers, but the public is welcome to attend.

Events on Harbor Island get underway Saturday and finish Sunday with closing ceremonies around 3:30 in Grand Haven. For information including directions and schedules, visit one of the two websites set up by the Historical Society.
