Holy Week Reflection - Day 1

Happy Palm Sunday from WCSG!

We are so excited to begin this journey with you to the cross and resurrection of Jesus! We hope that wherever you are, you enjoy this time to reflect and mediate on the words and character of Jesus this Holy Week.

Our verse for the day is from John 12:12-13, which says “Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, “Hosanna!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” Blessed is the king of Israel!”

Jesus is in the middle of his public ministry and is making his way into Jerusalem. On this day, the day we mark as Palm Sunday, is a day to remember the peace and victory of Jesus! As Jesus enters the city, He is greeted with crowds of people who have been anticipating His arrival and want to catch even just a glimpse of the Promised Messiah. They are eager to see Him and quickly go out to meet Him!

They wave palm branches as Jesus passes by, which are a symbol of peace and victory while shouting “Hosanna” which means save us! They were excited to see the Victorious King, but they did not realize He would become the sacrificial Lamb.

It is quite humbling that even as the people welcomed Jesus, praised Him, and cried out for salvation, they would have no idea of how this would all play out by the end of the week. God’s plan for salvation, peace and victory was not how the people envisioned, but it was good and the perfect plan of the Father. Jesus’ path to save and bring peace, to teach, and to fight victoriously for us, was part of a much bigger and greater plan. Praise God for holding each day in his hand and for being all knowing!

When you think about your own life, do you see ways in which God’s plan was better than your own? Can you see jobs you pursued, relationships you clung to, opportunities to serve and volunteer that all seem good and according to plan, but God used those things differently than what you thought or maybe even prayed for?

Challenge: Reflect on the ways in your life in which God’s plan was better than your own. Praise Him for being in control and knowing what is best for you!
