Holy Week - Good Friday

Holy Week Reflection - Day 5 Verse: Luke 23:34 - “Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” Is this Friday Good? All week, we’ve been leading up to this crucial day, this crucial moment in the life of Jesus; His death on the cross. Jesus has been making a way to life, preparing His disciples, and has finally arrived at His final mission on this side of eternity. This day does not seem good. We can only imagine what the emotions of the disciples were as they watched betrayals and Jesus carrying His cross to die, but it probably was not a good feeling that they had. When you think of Good Friday, what comes to mind? Is it agony and darkness? Is it gratitude and hope? Is it good? Or maybe it seems like just another day? Maybe the significance of the day gets lost in the hustle and bustle of preparing Easter dinner and stuffing plastic eggs with candy? In a day that is full of sadness and grief, we can say this day is good because of Jesus. We can say this is the day the Lord has made. It is a day full of mercy, grace and forgiveness. Praise God. Good Friday is the culmination of the good news of the gospel. It is in the revealing and the noticing of God’s plan and His goodness to us because of Christ, that we have hope on this day. In Jesus’ last moments, He had the humility, grace, love, and kindness to say "Father, forgive them, for they don't know what they're doing." Even after everything Jesus had experienced, the mocking, piercing, torturing, Jesus looked at them all as He hung on the cross and forgave them for all they had done. This is humbling. Challenge: Take time this Good Friday to slow down and consider the Lord’s great mercy and forgiveness.
