Our WCSG Travelin Together series takes us over to the coast of Muskegon.

The Muskegon South Pierhead Light is part of the Michigan Lighthouse Conservancy.  Established in the 1850’s the first known lighthouse in the region was operated by a husband and wife team.  Multiple modifications have been made to the lighthouse and transformed the property over the decades.
Built in 1851, The Muskegon South Pierhead Light has guided vessels around the lake and the channel.  The lighthouse itself has gone through multiple transformations but has always remained a valuable guide to ships out on the lake and those trying to enter the channel.
Guided tours of the lighthouse are led by volunteer keepers who not only share the story of its history but also the technological transformation the lighthouse has undergone.  Public tours are offered Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays from 1-5 pm. The 2021 tours come to an end Labor Day of this year.  (September 6)
