Michigan has many beautiful beaches, but this year one of the best is less than two hours' drive away.

As part of our WCSG’s Travelin’ Together, we visit 1st Street Beach in Manistee. Voted the best beach in Michigan by USA Today, the beach is known as a ‘family friendly’ location, with plenty of activities and amenities. The soft white sand offers excellent sandcastle building opportunities, a relaxing atmosphere, and ample space to accommodate large families.

If you’d rather spend time getting some exercise in, there’s space for volleyball and other play areas and beach activity games. Nearby Douglas Park has its own fenced in dog park and dedicated dog beach on the waterfront below the observation deck near the Lions Pavilion. You’ll find several grills as well as several restrooms.

Nearby Manistee offers many restaurants and shops to explore. Hundreds of miles of trails wind their way around the community and Manistee National Forest.
