One of the biggest attractions in the state is the Big Lake. Our WCSG’s Travelin’ Together visits an affordable destination that offers a one-of-a-kind perspective of life on Lake Michigan. Located in the former U.S. Coast Guard Station, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, The Port of Ludington Maritime Museum offers 30 exhibits that draw attention to the people, events, and machines that made history along that portion of the waterway. You can learn how the ships were constructed to make their way across the big lake, while carrying cargo as diverse as cars, rail cars and timber. See over 100 models of lighthouses that guided those vessels safely across Lake Michigan. You can view shipwrecks of those that ran into storms or ran afoul of the shore. In addition, the museum offers online educational information to prepare you and your family before your visit. The museum is open now through mid-October. For more information including hours, fees, and exhibits, visit our website Ludington Maritime Museum.
