Young and old alike can enjoy an amazing look at the history of the auto industry in Michigan, and get a free guided tour in this week's WCSG's Travelin' Together. Located near the center of downtown Lansing, the RE Olds Transportation Museum began in 1977 with the purpose of bringing to life the strategic importance of the city to the automotive industry. True, while Detroit gets the lions share of glory, Lansing also has a story to tell. The museum offers a first hand look at both the power of the auto industry in civilian and war-time life. This weekend, the museum is offering a free guided tour of their impressive collection of over 80 vehicles that date back to 1886. The tour is meant to give everyone, from car enthusiasts to the young novice, an insight into the important role Michigan played in the auto racing field, from design and development to improvements to both the machines and the tracks. Another unique exhibit showcased this weekend is “Soldiers of Production: Lansing and the Arsenal of Democracy.” Did you know that Michigan was crucial to the war effort? Learn more and see how workers transitioned from automobile production into a finely tuned machine to help defeat enemies of freedom. The tour is free with admission. For information on times, fees, and how to make sure you have a spot, visit their website at RE Olds Transportation Museum.
