Kalamazoo issues boil water advisory for parts of city

KALAMAZOO, MI - (Mlive) -  A boil water advisory is in place for the next three days to fix water infrastructure in parts of Kalamazoo, officials said in a news release.

The precautionary advisory is to prevent the drinking or ingestion of tap water in the affected areas, according to a City of Kalamazoo Department of Public Services release. The Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department cooperated with the city on the advisory, officials said.

The following areas will see repair work that will result in a temporary loss of water pressure:

  • Lake Forest Drive from the southern boundary of the Kalamazoo city limits to the northern boundary at Lake Forest Lane. Both sides of the roadway will be affected, but 4469 Lake Forest Drive will not be.
  • Brandywine Road from Lake Forest Drive to the end of the roadway. Both sides of the roadway will be affected.
  • Roxbury Lane from Brandywine Road to the end of the roadway. Both sides of the roadway will be affected.
  • Lake Hill Drive from Lake Forest Drive to the end of the roadway. Both sides of the roadway will be affected.

Before restoring boil water to the areas, there has to be confirmed tests showing no bacteria is present in the water main at the location of the infrastructure repair, officials said. Initial sampling results will be available within 24 hours of its collection, and the final collection will be available 24 hours after that, officials said.

It is recommended that municipal water customers in the affected area use bottled water for consumption, officials said. Otherwise, tap water would need to be boiled for two minutes prior to drinking or ingestion, officials said.

Water can still be used for personal hygiene without prior preparation, officials said.
