The MCCA had a surplus and the Governor ordered that money to be divided between drivers paying insurance.

 — Michigan drivers with auto insurance will soon starting getting previously announced $400 refunds per vehicle.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer was in Grand Rapids yesterday and said  the state’s top insurance regulator will begin sending checks out later this week.

A $3 billion transfer of surplus funds from the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association to car insurers will be issued no later than May 9.

The companies will have 60 days to issue the refunds.

The governor has attributed the surplus and refunds in part to 2019 law that curbed or cut what health providers and attendant care aides can charge auto insurers.

Meanwhile those against the change in law, say it has led to injured motorists losing quality care.
