Grand Rapids City Commissioners approve a land purchase for new development along the Grand River.
Changes could soon be coming to downtown Grand Rapids.
City Commissioners this week approved the purchase of an 11.6-acre plot along the Grand River.
The Grand Rapids/Kent County Convention/Arena Authority said this is a step forward in the proposal to bring an 12,00-seat amphitheater, affordable housing and recreation space to that area of town.
The city owned the area of 201 Market Avenue, south of the US-131 S-curve, and the CAA offered to buy it for $24.3 million.
