2/16/22 - Getting Ready for More Bad Weather

Winter weather presents its own set of challenges for drivers. 2/16/22.

Some areas of Michigan could see up to 9 inches of snow over the next 24-48 hours.

With more winter weather on the way, Michigan State Police are offering some advice for driving safely during this transition.

The national weather service is predicting upwards of nine inches of snow over the next 24-48 hours but before that, rain is also in the forecast.  That means a difficult transition for the roadways as temperatures are expected to drop 20-25 degrees.

With rainfall, it could create dangerous conditions for roads especially in low-lying areas.  Even six inches of water can reach the bottom of most passenger cars causing problems.  So don’t attempt to drive through flooded areas.  Don't drive around barricades.  They are there for your protection.

For snowy weather its best to know before you go.  Check with your destination to make sure they're open.  When out on the road, don’t crowd the plow.  Giving them enough room to operate will not only make your commute easier, it also ensures plows can do their jobs appropriately.  Make sure your windshield solvent reservoir is full.  Keep an emergency preparedness kit in your vehicle.
