A 13-year-old boy was killed and another was seriously injured as both of their four-wheelers flipped Sunday afternoon at Silver Lake Sand Dunes.
MEARS, MI - Two 13-year-old cousins from Illinois were riding separate ATV's at Silver Lake Sand Dunes Sunday afternoon.
One boy was killed and another was seriously injured as both of their four-wheelers flipped .
Deputies responded to reports of the crash around 1 p.m., Oct. 10 at the dunes located at 1765 N. Lakeview Dr. in Mears, said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.
Authorities say the two were traveling at a high rate of speed on their four-wheelers. After driving over a steep incline, the vehicles flipped over.
One teen was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other suffered serious injuries, police said.
Paramedics transported the other teen to Mercy Hospital in Muskegon.
The identities of the two teens were not released.
