5/20/22 - A Tragic End To A Local Graduation Ceremony

Two people were sent to the hospital following a shooting in the parking lot of East Kentwood High School.

-A number of Kentwood Public Schools are closed today following a shooting in the parking lot of East Kentwood High School Thursday evening.

East Kentwood High School, the Freshman campus, Pinewood Middle School, and Crossroads Alternative High School are all closed Friday.

Police say the graduation for Crossroads Alternative High School was taking place in the football stadium of East Kentwood High School. Multiple shots were fired between two vehicles in white sedans.  Two bystanders were injured by the shots....a 16-year-old boy from Texas and a 40-year-old woman from Grand Rapids.  The suspects left the scene at a high rate of speed.

Superintendent Kevin Polston said the investigation continues and crisis counselors would be available for students.
