It has been nine years since the city of Flint switched its water sources and the Flint water crisis began.

(FLINT, Mich) - On April 25, 2014, the mayor of Flint flipped a switch that began drawing Flint River water into the city's municipal water system.

Tuesday, residents gathered in Flint to mark the nine-year anniversary of the crisis that changed their lives.

Representatives of Water You Fighting For? and the Democracy Defense League organized a program on Tuesday, April 25 at the People’s Church, 503 Garland St., in Flint.

Inadequate treatment and testing of the water resulted in a series of major water quality and health issues for Flint residents.  Many of the concerns were ignored, overlooked, and discounted by government officials.

The theme of this year's commemorative event was "Unfinished Business."  Many expressed the need to continue flighting for justice and to further help residents who have suffered from the water crisis.

There are also questions surrounding the settlement that was reached and the money that is being distributed.

Many of the pipes throughout the city of Flint had lead in them.  As a result, many other communities are in the process of replacing them.
