Memorial Day is a time to honor the bravery and sacrifice of our nation's soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. The Muskegon area USS Silversides Museum, West Michigan's port for the WWII era submarine, is hosting a special event to recognize those individuals, especially from Michigan, who contributed to the war efforts and lost their lives in the process. "The Lights of Honor: Remembering Our Heroes" takes place on Saturday, May 24th, to salute the 40-thousand men and women of Michigan who gave their lives defending our country. The event will include tours of the USS Silversides, guest speakers and a number of demonstrations. Food trucks will be available, along with several community organizations that specialize in services for veterans. The events begin at 4pm with a celebration service begins at 6pm and runs through 10pm with a special engine start, along with music and more. Organizers say there will be a moment of silence and walk as we pay tribute to the honor and sacrifice with luminaries lit representing over 40,000 Michigan service members who made the ultimate sacrifice."
