Holy Week Reflection - Day 6

Verse: Isaiah 53:5 - "But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed."

The prophet Isaiah is speaking of the Jesus here in chapter 53. The entire chapter reflects the story of the cross, the character of Jesus, and does a beautiful job at summarizing the work of Jesus.

Good Friday is finished and Resurrection Sunday is coming soon, for now, we are in the waiting. It is in the space, as we eagerly anticipate Jesus defeating death and the grave, where we have the opportunity to sit in thankfulness and gratitude at what the Lord has done because this is the reality; we cannot save ourselves. No matter how hard we try, we can never do enough to save ourselves. We need a Savior.

Jesus came into this world to be pierced, mocked, crushed, and punished for us. Isaiah 53 reflects that perfectly and helps us to understand that it was to bring us peace and healing. Praise the Father for sending Jesus to us who took the consequence of sin and death that was meant to be ours. He brought us an overwhelming peace and healing that we so desperately needed. We owe it all to Him.

This Easter season, take some time to reflect and pray for a humble heart, to humbly come into the presence of the Lord and thank God for his peace and healing. In Philippians 4:6-7 it says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (NIV). The peace that Jesus offers us on the cross is a peace that doesn’t make sense, it transcends all understanding, yet guards us everyday and makes us whole. Praise God!

Challenge:

1. How do you see the peace of God in your life?

2. How does Isaiah 53 parallel the gospels?

Encouraging Words From Your Bible

In those days John the Baptist came to the Judean wilderness and began preaching. His message was, “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”
