All Swiss bus crash victims identified

Mar 16th, 2012 - International News

GENEVA (AP) — Police say the bodies of 22 children and six adults killed when a bus from Belgium crashed in a Swiss tunnel have been identified, and the Belgians among them are awaiting repatriation.

The police in the Swiss canton (state) of Valais say it took "exceptional resources" and reinforcements to finish the gruesome task within two days of Tuesday's crash inside Tunnel de Geronde near the Swiss town of Sierre.

Belgium is preparing to use three military planes to repatriate the bodies today — a national day of mourning.

The accident claimed the lives of 21 Belgians and seven Dutch. The cause remains under investigation.

Eight of the 24 children wounded returned to Belgium Thursday evening.
