Today we honor & celebrate our mom, Mary VanDenBerg, on her 89th birthday! Mom has endured hardships and struggles but overcame each one just like the flowers she plants, tends to, and weeds so they can become a beautiful orchestration of reds, purples, pinks, and yellow in her yard. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

She is a thriving member at Moline CRC and enthusiastically volunteers to bring cookies & breads for events. Above all she loves us and takes great delight in her grandkids and 10 great grands. In Psalm 91:14-16 The Lord says "I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer. I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation." He honors the memory of those who have given their lives in the line of duty. <\/p>\n\n

Known as peace officers, law enforcement officers are on duty around the clock to protect and to serve.  Today they are honored for the many sacrifices they make.  Our listening friend dedicates this day with WCSG as a salute to the law enforcement officers whose lives were given for our protection and well-being. <\/p>\n\n

In honor of mothers everywhere, and in loving memory of Peter C. Cook—whose birthday was May 9—the Peter C. and Emajean Cook Foundation is proud to sponsor today’s WCSG programming. <\/p>\n\n

Peter and his wife, Emajean, affectionately known as Pat, were faithful stewards who prioritized Christian causes and generously invested in their community. Pat devoted herself to being a stay-at-home mother to their sons, Tom and Steve, while also supporting Peter in both business and philanthropic endeavors. Though they have both passed, their legacy continues to impact lives through the ongoing work of their foundation. <\/p>\n\n

Today, that legacy lives on through their family. Their granddaughter, Laura Matonich (Matt -n-itch)  with husband Paul, is the mother of Sophie, and their grandson, Ryan Cook, and his wife, Jessica, are the parents of Alexander and Olivia. Laura and Ryan both serve on the Foundation Board and remain committed to the enduring values of faith, family, and service. <\/p>\n\n

On this day, May 9, 2026, the Cook Foundation celebrates the WCSG Christian family. Today we remember our sweet girl, Kara, (Care-uh) who was a remarkably creative mom, daughter, sister, aunt, grandma, wife, and friend. Kara’s desire was to bring happiness and fun to those she loved. She was incredibly thoughtful, sharing gifts that were chosen with care and making sure no one would ever feel left out or forgotten. Kara was our cheerleader! We are trusting in God’s grace and mercy for her spiritual destination, but we are certain she wants everyone to know of the salvation God offers through His forgiveness and grace. <\/p>\n\n

Philippians chapter three verses 13 and 14 say, “One thing I do; forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. <\/p>\n\n

Today we remember our beloved Kenny who went home to be with our Lord a year ago today.  Kenny’s time here was shorter than we wanted.  We were so blessed to have him for 42 years. We have the comfort of knowing he is with our Lord, and his scars are now healed.  However, we miss him so very much.  He was a wonderful servant to our Lord, husband, grandpa, son, brother, uncle, and nephew.  We look forward to the day we all will join him in Heavan.  Until then, we pray our Lord will keep him in His loving, healing arms. <\/p>\n\n

Kristen was welcomed into her eternal home by her parents, Tom and Marcia Cook on June 11, 2024, at the age of 47.  She left behind her husband, Mike, and their daughters, Abigail and Grace, who continue to embody her vibrant spirit, generous heart, and love for life.<\/p>\n\n

Though she is deeply missed, Kristen’s legacy lives on through the lives she touched and the family and philanthropic work she passionately supported.<\/p>\n\n

We rest in God’s comfort and provision, holding close the promise of John 14:27:

April 15, 2014 was the day that God chose to bring Ken Miedema to heaven. We miss you so much, Ken, and are trying to live by your example. Habakkuk 3:17-19 is our goal “Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD. I will be joyful in God, My Savior. The Sovereign LORD is my strength; He makes my feet like the feet of a deer, He enables me to tread on the heights.”<\/p>\n\n

He notes that her family has comfort knowing that Kris is in heaven singing with the Heavenly Host. Kris, his dear wife of 52 years, is also missed by Kerry, Kim and Brad and 6 grandchildren to whom she was Grandma Mitten.<\/p>\n\n

Kris entered heaven to be with Jesus, her dad, Casey Boersma, her sister Mary Huizenga, and her cousin Bill Wiersma.<\/p>\n\n

Kris loved reading God's Word daily.
