Tigers fall out of 1st place

6.18.14:  The Tigers fall again to the Royals

The Kansas City Royals took over first place in the AL Central last night with a 11-4 victory over the Detroit Tigers.

Alex Gordon and Mike Moustakas homered as part of a 7-run second inning.  It was the Royals 9th straight victory.  The Royals trailed the Tigers by 7 games after a May 20 loss and now lead the Tigers.  Tigers losing pitcher Max Scherzer  yielded a career high-tying 10 runs in four-plus innings. The reigning American League Cy Young Award winner allowed the first eight batters of the second inning to reach base, with Kansas City scoring six runs before making an out.

The Tigers, White Sox, and Cubs are all scheduled to play afternoon games Wednesday.
