Rockford students staying home Thursday because of E.coli - Sep 5th, 2013 - Local

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - The E.coli contamination found in the City of Rockford's water system has prompted the superintendent of Rockford schools to close six schools - and keep home 3,000 of the district's 8,000 students - on Thursday, Sept. 5.

"I'm not keeping schools open if it's unsafe," said Mike Shibler. "You have to do what's in the best interest of children always."

The six schools on city water are: Meadow Ridge Elementary, Parkside Elementary
Valley View Elementary, North Rockford Middle School, River Valley Academy, and preschool childcare program at the district administration building. The other schools in the district receive water service from Plainfield or Cannon townships.
