Tigers score dramatic win - Aug 30th, 2013 - Sports
— Max Scherzer didn't get his 20th win of the season, but the fans at Commerica Park sure got a thrilling ending from the hometown Tigers.
Torii Hunter hit a two-out, three-run homer to cap a four-run ninth inning and give Detroit a 7-6 win over Oakland. That salvaged the final game of the four-game series for the Tigers in a meeting of playoff contenders.
Hunter connected off of Athletics closer Grant Balfour who came on to start the ninth trying to protect a 6-3 lead. Just before Hunter hit the game-winner, Victor Martinez delivered an RBI single to close the gap.
Scherzer entered the game with a 19-1 mark, but got tagged for a two-run homer in the first from Jed Lowrie. He also gave up a two-run homer to Brandon Moss in the fifth, before leaving the game after giving up six runs on eight hits.
