Fallasburg Covered Bridge damaged - Aug 22nd, 2013 - Local

The Kent County Road Commission had to close the 142-year-old Fallasburg Covered Bridge on Wednesday, after an overweight cement truck damaged the historic structure. The High Grade Materials cement truck, was more than 10 times over the weight limit as it crossed the wooden bridge and damaged the bridge's west entrance and internal roof trusses.
The historic bridge has spanned the Flat River since 1871 and has a weight limit of 3 tons.
The driver admitted to driving the overweight truck across the bridge and was issued a citation.
Engineers inspected the bridge Wednesday and plan to return Thursday to inspect the underside for structural integrity.
