GRPS will lay off 106 of their teachers - Jul 16th, 2013 - Local

The Grand Rapids Public School Board voted to approve a resolution that would lay off 106 teachers as well as a number of other employees. It is not known yet how many employees will be getting layoff notices.
The district is working with a transformation plan that is expected to save the district $4.5 million annually.
The board also unanimously selected John Matias, to fill the Board of Education seat that was recently vacated by Senita Lenear. Matias will be sworn in on August 5th and will serve the remainder of Lenear's term, which will run out at the end of 2014.
