Arrests during LA protests over Zimmerman acquittal - Jul 15th, 2013 - National

— Police in Los Angeles say they've arrested some people who were protesting the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the Travyon Martin shooting death.

The Los Angeles Times reports more than 100 Los Angeles police officers in riot gear tried to get some 80 protesters to leave Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood early this morning.

The protests came at the end of a day of mainly peaceful protests.

Police say throughout the day seven people were arrested.

The Justice Department is reviewing whether there's enough evidence for a criminal civil rights case in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

The department opened an investigation into Martin's death last year but stepped aside to allow for the state to prosecute its case.
