Local Commission votes down plan for new YMCA - Jun 26th, 2013 - Local
The Grand Rapids Township Planning commission voted down a plan to build a new YMCA. The proposal was to relocate the Southeast YMCA from Forest Hills Avenue, to the corner of Leonard Street and Crahen Avenue NE. Supporters said more room would mean a significant upgrade for the facility.
Many who were part of a residential neighborhood committee opposed the project due to the increased traffic it would bring into a residential neighborhood.
At a public hearing Tuesday night, the township voted 4-2 to reject the plan.
