George W. Bush event raises $400,000 for school - May 16th, 2013 - Local
— An event featuring President George W. Bush has raised $400,000 to support the West Michigan Aviation Academy.
Bush spoke Wednesday to a crowd of roughly 900 during the second annual Leaders of Tomorrow Gala at a hangar on the grounds of Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids.
Former President Bush answered questions for about 30 minutes from Amway heir and 2006 GOP gubernatorial candidate Dick DeVos as they sat in armchairs on a stage.
In response to a question about the best and worst parts about being president, Bush said the worst part is war and said he "didn't want to be a wartime president."
DeVos founded the West Michigan Aviation Academy, a tuition-free public charter high school. It opened in 2010 at Ford airport.
