13 at a Grand Rapids area business taken to hospital - Apr 17th, 2013 - Local

— Officials say 13 people taken to a hospital after being sickened at a West Michigan medical supply manufacturing business have been released from care.

Caledonia Township Fire Chief Brian Bennett tells The Associated Press in an email that the cause of the illnesses Tuesday night isn't known. He says air quality monitoring is planned Wednesday at Aspen Surgical.

Crews responded about 9:45 p.m. following reports of employees having trouble breathing at the facility in the Caledonia area, about 15 miles southeast of Grand Rapids. They evaluated or treated 63 people at the scene and 13 were taken to a hospital.

Bennett said people reported respiratory problems, headaches and other conditions.

A hazardous materials team that responded didn't find hazardous chemicals in the air, but the facility was ventilated.
