Storms bring snow, ice, rain to parts of Michigan - Apr 12th, 2013 - State

— Storms moving across the Midwest are bringing snow, ice and heavy rains to different parts of Michigan.

The National Weather Service says snow began falling in the Upper Peninsula on Thursday night. By the time the storm wraps up late Friday, parts of the area could get 8 to 12 inches of snow. In higher elevations, up to 14 inches is forecast.

Many schools in northern Michigan are closed today.

In the northern Lower Peninsula, as much as three-quarters of an inch of ice was reported in places, including parts of Gladwin County. That followed snow earlier in the week, and more snow is possible. Driving conditions are difficult.

In other parts of the Lower Peninsula, some roads flooded Wednesday and Thursday due to heavy rain and melting snow.

Rain fell again Friday in the Detroit area.
