Backlash grows to allowing knives, clubs on planes - Mar 8th, 2013 - National
— A backlash is growing to the Transportation Security Administration's new policy allowing passengers to carry small knives and some sports equipment onto planes.
A labor coalition of flight attendants says it's coordinating a legislative and public education campaign to reverse the policy announced this week by TSA Administrator John Pistole (PIH'-stohl).
A petition posted by the flight attendants on the White House's "We the People" website had more than 9,300 signatures early Friday urging knives be kept off planes.
An association representing federal air marshals said it will ask Congress to block the policy change. Pilot unions also have objected.
A TSA spokesman says the items permitted under the new policy aren't likely to be used to hijack or blow up a plane.
