Waiting for a ruling on the S.S. Badger - Feb 27th, 2013 - Local
A federal ruling is expected shortly that could determine the fate of the S.S. Badger, the nation's last remaining coal-fire steamship. The EPA has ordered the ferry to stop dumping coal ash into Lake Michigan. The ferryboat runs between Ludington & Manitowac, Wisconsin and discharges more than 500 tons of ash each season. Company officials say they are researching new fueling technology but need more time. The EPA says it will make a tentative decision in March on whether to give the Badger a new permit.
