Higgins Fighting Extradition Today in Chicago - Feb 20th, 2013 - Local
A man suspected in the deaths of a Kentwood couple in January is expected in a Chicago area courtroom today. Javonte Higgins is facing extradition back to Michigan and his hearing is scheduled for this afternoon.
While he is fighting the extradition, he faces other charges for which he was wanted in Wyoming. He is alleged to have broken into a home, stole a pickup truck and later crashed that after a police chase. He ended up in a local hospital but walked away before police arrived.
David and Vivian Bouwman were found murdered in their Kentwood home and their car stolen from the garage. That car was later found burned and abandoned in Grand Rapids. Police used a tip from that incident to put together a profile of an individual they say was involved. While Higgins is person police have been searching for, they still believe a second person may have been involved or knows something about the crime.
