More consolidation for GRPS - Oct 30th, 2012 - Local

Grand Rapids Public School Superintendent Theresa Weatherall Neil says she wants to expand upon what is working and address what is not. There is a plan that outlines changes and realities that the school district is facing. They have lost 7,000 students since 2001. Because of this and other hurdles, the district would close 10 schools including Creston High School and re-purpose dozens of others. The Superintendent also wants to improve graduation rates which are below 50% and decrease drop out rates which stand at 1 in 5 students. The first public hearing will be held November 1.
