Huge wind farm going up in mid-Michigan - Sep 17th, 2012 - State
A large wind farm being planned for mid-Michigan are keeping things busy in Muskegon. The first of dozens of shipments of huge wind turbine parts from the Mart Dock to a wind farm begins Monday morning. The first special vehicles carrying wind turbine blades and tower sections will begin to make their way from the downtown Muskegon commercial dock to the Beebe Community Wind Farm south of Mount Pleasant. It will be slow going as they try to maneuver the long blades and could cause some traffic tie-ups.
Meanwhile, port activity continues as parts for the 34 commercial wind turbines arrive in Muskegon. 5 other foreign vessels with more turbine blades from Germany and turbine tower sections from South Korea, will be arriving in the coming weeks.
