Emergency manager makes job cuts in Muskegon Hts. - May 17th, 2012 - State
Governor Rick Snyder appointed an emergency manager to help out the Muskegon Heights School district. The schools are $12 million dollars in debt. Emergency manager Don Weatherspoon, has sent out lay off notices to 158 district employees. The letters were sent out Wednesday and cited "urgent financial circumstance surrounding the district." Some administrators and teachers were given notices of non-renewal contracts. The layoffs are effective June 8. The financial manager has also arranged for an on-line auction with proceeds used to pay down district debt. No date has been set yet.
