GLE says watch for phone scam - Jan 30th, 2012 - State

Great Lakes Energy issued a warning Friday afternoon, letting members know about a phone call scam. The caller urges them to contact several 900 pay-per-call numbers to avoid high billing charges. The caller claims the GLE member's electric bill will be estimated because they were not able to read the meter. Great Lakes Energy, says the story is false. The electric cooperative has automated meters that automatically report readings to the company. Anyone who receives such a call should hang up and report the incident to law enforcement authorities.
