GLENDORA, Calif. (AP) — Firefighters are chasing early-morning flare-ups in a damaging wildfire that is keeping thousands of people from their homes in the foothill suburbs northeast of Los Angeles, as dangerously dry conditions persist.
Television news footage Friday morning show open flames tearing through brush along hillsides above homes abutting the San Gabriel Mountains.
Crews continue to provide structure protection, dousing homes in the path of the flames.
More than 2,000 people in the Azusa area remain under evacuation orders.
By nightfall Thursday, the wildfire had swept through about 2 ½ square miles of brush and destroyed five homes. It was 30 percent contained. Five homes were destroyed.
A red-flag warning of extreme fire danger will remain in place until evening because of low humidity and the chance of revived Santa Ana winds.
