Local Parish mourns death of 4 missionaries

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Grand Rapids, says 4 West Michigan residents were killed in a car accident during a mission trip to Haiti. Many from the group that arrived in Haiti last week were members of the Holy Spirit Parish in Grand Rapids. The victims were identified as Matt Kutsche, Mary LaPonsie, and Jim & Rita Cwengros.
The parish has a relationship with a Haitian Parish and had made regular trips down there. Members were riding in a caravan of 5 vehicles on a long trip up a winding mountain road when the brakes went out on one vehicle. The vehicle then crashed through an iron barrier and plunged down a ravine.
