More buildings consumed by U.P. wildfire

NEWBERRY, Mich. (AP) — Rain is lending a hand to about 230 crew members who are battling a wildfire that has consumed 34 square miles of forest in the eastern part of Michigan's sparsely populated Upper Peninsula.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources said Sunday that the fire north of Newberry is about 51 percent contained.
Officials are raising the number of buildings destroyed by the wildfire to 95 structures and a third of them are homes or cabins.
Officials are warning people to stay away from Tahquamenon Falls State Park.
Because of extremely dry conditions, Gov. Rick Snyder last week barred fireworks and outdoor burning in 49 counties in the Upper and Lower peninsulas.
