Funnel cloud touches down in Michigan

6.18.14:  Thunderstorms bring funnel cloud, flooding, and power outages

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — The National Weather Service says a funnel cloud briefly touched down in the northern Lower Peninsula, damaging several buildings and vehicles.

The weather service says it happened about noon on Tuesday in Hale, an unincorporated community in Iosco County’s Plainfield township about 55 miles north of Bay City.

There are no reported injuries.

The weather service says the tornado was on the ground about 2 minutes with maximum winds of 100 miles per hour.

The tornado came as a wave of severe thunderstorms passed through lower Michigan, knocking down trees and blocking some roads.

The weather service says another funnel cloud was sighted in Ogemaw County but didn’t touch down.

It says winds gusting up to 60 mph knocked down trees and blocked a highway in Crawford County.
