Ebola victim heads to US

8.5.14:  American aid worker headed to Atlanta

(AP) — An American missionary infected with the deadly Ebola virus in Liberia is expected to arrive in the United States today.

Nancy Writebol will be taken to a special isolation unit at Atlanta’s Emory University Hospital.

That’s where her colleague and fellow American, Dr. Kent Brantly, is being treated.

Both aid workers have been given an experimental drug that’s never been tested for safety in humans and their health is improving.

Meanwhile, doctors in Nigeria say more people who treated a Liberian-American man who died of Ebola in July may also have become infected.

A doctor who treated Patrick Sawyer in Nigeria already is confirmed to have Ebola.

But authorities say test results are pending on three other health workers who also are showing symptoms after being around Sawyer.
